Lots coming up in September! In a couple of weeks, on Tuesday 9th, Dónall is hosting the second Just-For-Fun Slam at the Keystone Pub, 3 Portsmouth Road, a short walk from Guildford Station. We're very excited that we've persuaded the Antipoet (Paul and Ian of Rrrants fame) to come down and perform as guests that night. They've had a great year, including their appearances at Glastonbury last month! You've seen them in Guildford before, at the Bar des Arts (they have poems in the anthology as a result) and they'll be rrranting here again on 9th, at the Keystone Pub!
Of course we're also calling for slam entrants - five minutes of fame and the chance of winning a bagful of Dónall's hand-picked Tiny Prizes! If you were there last month, you'll remember that nobody who read in the Slam left the place empty-handed and that's our promise on 9th September too. Bring your friends and relations and anyone who has a poem in them, and join in the fun! Sign up to read your poem by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or arrive before 7.15 on the night, to enter. Everyone will be appreciated - no pressure, just a good night out in a friendly pub!!
We have three great guests: Harry Man, an excitingly surreal young poet, and Pauline Sewards. and Tom V & Friends, all with new work to entertain and inspire. Sign up for the Open Mic at 7.30.
And finally, news of another poetry performance opportunity in Guildford with the 1000 Monkeys! On 20th September we're taking part in the Artists and Makers Guild Festival in Holy Trinity Church, Guildford. We've been asked to perform alternately with the music performances provided by The Boileroom, inside the church. This looks like being a very lively day, with arts and crafts workshops and works on display and for sale, as well as the music and spoken word entertainment. if anyone reading this would like to know more or book a time to read their work, please contact Jan on email@example.com. Dónall Dempsey, Jan Windle and Karen Izod are already scheduled to read, and there will be space for more. The readings will be at 11.00 to 11.30, 2.00 to 2.30 and 3.00 to 3.30. Open mic readings will also be invited. It looks like being a fun day!
