But nobody got seriously hurt and certainly our Secret Weapon, Oh Standfast, won the day, at the Keystone on 4th May! An unfamiliar bank holiday crowd made the job of reading at the Open Mic much tougher than usual, and after politely asking for a bit of consideration and being told "This is a pub, not a seance, mate", Dónall was very pleased to welcome Oh Standfast with legendary voice and megaphone, to deliver POETRY for the last half hour of the evening.
In the first half, Kyle took us fishing on the Bushkill, and Alex de Suys had a party political broadcast for us. Stephen Davids had 39 syllables, a poem to a tree and an amazing short story dedicated to Stephen Hawking, composed almost entirely of scientific vocabulary that had us gasping at the audacity of his puns. Geoff and Liddy read us more of their poems and then after the break, Oh Standfast took over and there was a good humoured armistice signed by all sides. Here's Kyle:
