Over the past three years our activities have grown to include not only performance open mics with featured guests but also slam nights and an anthology. Now we've decided we need a less generic name. We chose the subtitle of our second anthology of our readers'/performers' work, "If a thousand monkeys with a thousand typewriters..." as inspiration for that name.
So far no-one we know has actually typed the entire works of Shakespeare (we aren't really monkeys and anyway we don't have an infinite amount of time available) but instead our friends and associates have created a lot of highly original creative work, some of which we'll publish here along with videos and photos, advance notice of events, reviews of past events and news of new ventures, both on-going and one-off, truly POP UP events.
The common thread in our events is Dónall Dempsey, our energetic, inspiring and imaginative poet-host. He will encourage and inspire even the most retiring writer to step up to the microphone and share - and though he sometimes suggests that he knows where the audience lives and will come round and throw a brick through its window, he's gentle as a lamb really! Our audiences are always appreciative, anyway, so that's OK.
Jan is the back-room girl, who deals with communications away from the gig platforms, though she has been known to blurt out a poem or two as well.
We hope you'll follow us - when I've worked out how to put a "follow" button on here!
Have a look at our Events & Reviews page for details of our next few months' events at the Bar Des Arts and the Keystone, both in Guildford.
